valentine
for valentines i will do the dishes, vacuum the house, write articles, put clothes away, wash my puppy, make dinner, and watch downton abbey and pride and prejudice. sounds pretty perfect to me!
we all fall apart
there is and never will be anything perfect about me, not in this world. but there is something [someone] greater than me that thinks i’m worth it.

heartbeats
sometimes i am reminded, with overwhelming force, that i have been blanketed by people with true inner beauty. i am, hopelessly and acceptingly, in love with your hearts.

2011 Christmas Season Movies
So every year Johnny and I try to watch as many Christmas movies as we can; always adding on new ones and being sure to re-watch all of our favorites. This year we made it through 29, which isn’t our all-time best but isn’t too bad, either! Here’s the list in pictures [and in order of viewing]:
1. On Thanksgiving, of course!
2. Home Alone 2 [twice! once actually IN New York,...

new years plans
so far today i’ve read about blogging, platforms for writers, how-to get published, and thrifting as a job. my eyes are tired and my brain is wrapping around lots of information. but maybe i’ll wake up motivated.
to think i was defeated
some days fear disguises itself as a sheep, shyly moving past hills and brambles, sneaking in ever closer with the purest of smiles. we sit, back to the mountain with our eyes wrapped around the words of a book, feeling the sunshine warming our tendrils of fair hair, thinking the world is round and all is well while a knife evenly and silently slides between skin and bone. we can live forever with...
fair
i am sitting in a shaft of light, the morning upon my head like dew. the chill in the air wriggles its way past layers, and lays gently on skin. traffic never ceases, even in the midst of new opportunity to just quietly take the day in. i am scarcely without hope on a day like today, even as tinges of worry strive to sink their teeth in. where would we be without rest, without the chance to sit in...

autumn shmautumn
ok. you got me. i’m not looking forward to autumn for the first time in my life. but i will tell you what i am looking forward to, if the pacific northwest opts to give us a dry season.
corn maze. maize maze, if you will.
pumpkins.
halloween.
boots.
red noses.
the heater on in the car.
i guess other stuff, too. i just want an autumn where the leaves change, but my tan stays. where...

the beekeeper part I
strong black coffee drip drip drips into a brown-stained glass pot. his chair etches across uneven floor boards as he pushes back, placing an unfinished plate of eggs into the sink. he stops, pressing his weight against the counter and sighs out the window. a light hum barely makes its way past the pane, but he knows the hundreds of thousands of bee’s buzzing beyond the treeline. their day...

sugarcane fields
there’s so many things that i want to do in life, most simple, some not. i find myself having adventures in my head, but ditching out on them in real life. i’d love to wear dresses for an entire summer, but i love my jeans and cut-off’s so much. i’d love to not make poop jokes for like, a whole week and come across prim and proper. the mysterious girl who everyone wants to...

it was sunny, it was cloudy. a thick air hung weeping over words caught on the stiff breeze. she awoke with broken bones, and the breath-stealing dread of being awake at all. words lay like bricks upon her chest, squeezing in on an already shattered heart. how could wholeness ever find this suffocated soul, and who would think to mend a body this far gone? so for fear of past and present, those...

from the moment I woke up on Easter, I felt the presence of God. it was the first Easter that has ever meant something to me, the first one where I’ve been aware of it and its importance. when you are raised virtually on the anti’s of religion, you lose perspective. all I knew was that biblical things happened, then people decided they needed a specific day to immortalize their...

stale, pensive, all the minuses of the world
had this whole stage as my own, the laughter of an audience as good as the love of a spouse. felt the power of poetry on my shoulders as those broad lights hit my face, knew my lines better then a coke fiend. could send the brawniest man to his knees with a cold wind, the woman with vile upon her lips would commit her life to a god after one scene. held this entire theater in the palm of my hand...
indian summer
i burst out on the heels of my fathers sins, just as the summer had been tucked behind the browning sting of fall. his curse words still echoed down a long telephone wire, crossing cities awash in snow and ashen mountain silhouettes. the pride that had swelled his shoulders and broadened his fourth of july smile, slowly flowed out like a balloon left on the floor of a child’s room. a girl....
